Worcester Diocesan Board of Education, The Diocese of Worcester

Our organisation is the Worcester Diocesan Board of Education, The Diocese of Worcester.

Who is the best first point of contact?

That would be me, Spencer Morris, Deputy Director of Education for The Diocese of Worcester

What was the highlight of your summer?

Touring around Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island with my wife, enjoying wildlife spotting, the natural beauty and the local food and drink! The highlight of the holiday was when we spotted a baby humpback, which actually breached right next to us. This was in a large expanse of water, but we were informed that it was simply like a playground for the baby. Mum had left him to just play, and was keeping an eye from a safe distance. When he appeared and just splashed right back into the water, it was just unbelievable.

It was just one of those moments that puts things into perspective and you just see how small you really are.

Which method of contact you most prefer people to use when

Tell us a little bit about you as an organisation

The Diocese of Worcester serves exactly 100 Church schools in the dioceses of Worcester and Dudley. The overarching vision of the work of the Diocesan Education Team sits within the Worcester Diocese's Kingdom People vision and is expressed in the words To Love, To Learn, To Serve.

Why did you choose to be a partner with Church of England and
the Catholic Education Office?

The coaching element of the course really stood out in comparison to other NPQ providers, offering valuable time to provoke more critical thinking. Our candidates have enjoyed these sessions. It is also very rewarding, seeing our candidates grow over the duration of the course, and they have a clear pathway of CPD through our suite of NPQs on offer.

Which NPQs do you offer?

We offer the NPQH, NPQSL, NPQLT, NPQLTD, NPQLBC

Where will your learning take place?

Across a number of different locations in the dioceses of Gloucester, Hereford, Lichfield, Birmingham, Coventry and Worcester. Our Worcester offices are based in the heart of the city centre, at Lowesmoor Wharf.

Is there anything you would like to say to somebody who's
considering an NPQ?

Having completed the NPQH in the past, it was great to challenge myself, with the support of coaches and facilitators, as well as the other candidates. It’s great to now be on the other side of the programme, supporting the leaders of tomorrow. The benefits of our latest cohorts are already being seen in our schools, with children’s learning outcomes improving as a result.
